The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department is reminding area residents to be safe this holiday season.
Authorities say while this is a season of joy, it’s also a time when you can be at greater risk for dangers, such as theft and break-ins.
Online shopping continues to increase in popularity, but unfortunately, it can leave you vulnerable to theft.
Authorities advise you to log onto a retailer’s website if you want to shop and avoid clicking through an email link that offers an enticing deal. Scammers sometimes create fake emails that appear to be from a legitimate source.
They also recommend shopping on a secure network and having packages delivered to a secure location where they won’t be left unattended.
In addition, authorities recommend you park in well-lit areas at night, avoid driving alone if possible, and always be aware of surroundings.
