(Washington, IN) — While many of us were saying goodbye to 2021, one couple was about to ring in the new year with a new baby.
Brittany Pollock and Dylan Hughes had been counting the days until January 20th when their first child was due to be born. “I went to my regular appointment with Dr. Stafford on Thursday, December 30th,” Brittany explained. “I was having contractions, so he sent me to Daviess Community Hospital to be monitored.”
Brittany was admitted to the OB unit at DCH that day and patiently waited. Just 33 minutes into the new year, little Decemberly Rose Hughes arrived, weighing in at 7lbs, 1 oz. The couple was excited to learn that Decemberly was officially the first baby of 2022 born at DCH.
Dr. John Stafford had cared for Brittany throughout her pregnancy, but it turned out that Dr. Jonathan Frances was on call and delivered her baby girl. “The doctors and nurses who took care of us before, during and after the birth were awesome,” the new parents said. “The steak dinner here at the hospital was great too!”
Luckily for Decemberly, being the first born of 2022 at DCH came with some perks. The baby’s gift from DCH includes a giant wagon filled with shampoo, lotion, a giant Snoopy, toys, a baby book, diapers and more.
In 2021, there were 469 babies born at Daviess Community Hospital. Shawna O’Kelley Brinson, Director of OB/Nursery, remarked, “We increased our numbers from last year and we plan to grow each year. With the great reputation of our Women’s Health Center and the three high skilled OB physicians here in Washington, we believe our numbers will continue to climb.”
