Pike Central boys lost last night at the Greene County Invitational to North Central 65-55. Pike Central faces Vincennes Lincoln tonight on the road.
The Washington Junior High 7th and 8th grade boys picked up a couple of wins last night at the Hatchet House over Pike Central. The 7th graders improved to 9-4 on the season with a 52-11 win over Pike Central. Aiden Boyd lead all scores with 17 points. The 7th grade play again on Wednesday night at home against Vincennes.
The Hatchet 8th grade boys moved to 11-1 on the season with a 50-22 win over Pike Central. Trey James paced the Hatchets with 14 points. Xavion Lesure and Cordell Turner each had 10. The 8th grade boys will travel to Vincennes on Wednesday night.
Washington 7th & 8th grade Lady Hatchets traveled to Montgomery to play Barr Reeve on Monday night. Washington 7th grade Lady Hatchets went to 11-1 and opened the night with a 32-13 win on the road. Leading scores for the game were London Gilley with 17 points.
Washington 8th grade Lady Hatchets improved to 11-2 with a 28 to 9 win over Barr Reeve. Both teams travel to Jasper tonight. Games start at 6:00 pm.
The Boston Celtics defeated the Indiana Pacers 101-98 in overtime. Lance Stephenson missed a game-tying 3-pointer with 12 seconds left in overtime, and the Celtics made enough free throws to clinch the victory. Torrey Craig led Indiana with 19 points off the bench, and Domantas Sabonis had his second triple-double in three games with 11 points, 23 rebounds and 10 assists. Te Blue and Gold are just 3-16 away from home this season and have lost seven out of eight. The two teams return to Indianapolis for a rematch Wednesday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
For the first time in 41 years, the Georgia Bulldogs are on top of the college football world. Georgia beat Alabama 33-18 in the College Football Playoff National Championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The Dawgs picked off Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young and returned it 79 yards for a touchdown with 54 seconds to go to seal the victory. Stetson Bennett threw for 224 yards and two touchdowns, including a go-ahead 40-yard score with 8:09 to play. Georgia wraps up the magical season with a school-record 14 wins, while the Crimson Tide finished 13-2.
Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich was non-committal when asked Monday if Carson Wentz will be the team’s starting quarterback next season. Indianapolis collapsed down the stretch, losing its final two games to miss the playoffs. Wentz finished the season with 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions, but struggled over the season’s final six games. Reich said that the Colts have to improve in the passing game, which he said was below the team’s standards, but fell short of directly criticizing Wentz. Because Wentz played more than 75 percent of snaps, Indy’s 2022 first round draft pick belongs to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Purdue basketball dropped four spots to number seven in the AP Poll released Monday. The previously third-ranked Boilermakers went 1-1 last week, with a home loss to now 13th-ranked Wisconsin and a road victory over Penn State. Tuesday night’s scheduled basketball game between Purdue and Michigan has been postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the Wolverines program. Purdue will next take the court Friday night at home against Nebraska.
Indiana football is hiring Minnesota defensive line coach Chad Wilt to be the Hoosiers’ next defensive coordinator, according to multiple media reports. Charlton Warren left IU after one season to be the co-defensive coordinator at North Carolina. Wilt spent the past two seasons with the Golden Gophers, and The 43-year-old Pennsylvania native played college football at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. The Hoosiers went 2-10 and will have its third defensive coordinator in as many years.
