Even though it’s only mid-January, the state of Indiana has set a record for coronavirus infections this month.
The Indiana Department of Health reports more than 195,000 cases of the virus have been confirmed from January 1st through January 16th.
The previous monthly high was in December of 2020.
A record number of COVID-19 infections among students were also reported last week.
Most people are being infected with the omicron variant of the virus, which is highly contagious.
