American Legion Sponsors Youth Americanism & Government Test Program

Winners have been announced in a local educational youth program.
Washington High School recently hosted the annual Americanism and Government Test Program sponsored by The American Legion Post #121. The test is designed to measure a student’s knowledge on topics including the United States Flag, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and government at multiple levels in the state of Indiana.
After the local winners (one male and one female) are determined, their tests are forwarded to the 7th District of Indiana for judging and may then be forwarded to state and national departments for further consideration. If successful they could be awarded monetary recognition by the 7th District, Department of Indiana, and possibly be awarded an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, DC, and Gettysburg.
Arron Burris and Taylor Walls were the local winners in Washington.
The American Legion Flag Education Program is another educational opportunity for youth, available to all Washington City 4th Graders.
Participating students are provided a graphic novel outlining the origins, history, proper treatment, and respect for the US Flag.
Afterward, the students are given an exam and the highest-scoring male and highest-scoring female in each class are recognized winners. Each winner receives a certificate signed by the Post Commander and a US Flag Kit.
