Ninth-ranked Duke handed Notre Dame its first home loss with a 57-43 victory over the Fighting Irish in an ACC showdown Monday night in South Bend. Notre Dame scored just 14 first half points, the fewest in the Mike Brey era, which dates back to 2000. Freshman star Paolo Banchero (PAU-low bun-CHEH-row) led the Blue Devils with 21 points and nine rebounds. Notre Dame got 14 points from Paul Atkinson Jr., but nobody else scored more than seven, and the Irish shot just 19 percent. Dane Goodwin was held scoreless, the first time he did not score in double figures this season. The Fighting Irish had won four in a row, and fell to 14-7 overall and 7-3 in the ACC. The victory tied Duke atop the ACC standings with Miami at 8-2 in conference play. Barring a matchup in either the ACC or NCAA tournaments, Monday night marked the final game between Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski (sha-SHEV-skee) and his former assistant coach Brey. Coach K is retiring at the end of the season. Notre Dame plays at Miami Wednesday night.
