James McLemore

James Jerrell McLemore, 83, passed away on Feb. 4, 2022 in his Vincennes home with his family at his side.
He was born July 4, 1938 in Poinsett Co., Arkansas to Ruby Brooks and Paul McLemore.
Jerry, as he was known to friends and family, was a born tinkerer and hard worker. He enlisted in the Air Force and served with 429th Air Refueling Squadron from 1955 to 1959. He worked many jobs to provide for his family, but he retired from the Vincennes University physical plant in 2003. He was skilled in heating and air conditioning repair. He enjoyed learning about new technology and fixing things around the house. His easy personality brought comfort and love to his friends and family.
On Nov. 19, 1969, he married the love of his life, Darlene Stewart, and they settled in Vincennes. Together, they raised three children and one grandson who survive him: Glenda Cooper of Vincennes, James McLemore Jr. and his wife Andrea of Grovetown, Georgia, Stanley David Williams and his wife Rachael of South Bend, and T.J. Lancaster and his wife Haley of Vincennes.
He is additionally survived by nine other grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Jerry loved spending time with his grandchildren, and the great-grandchildren brought him such joy.
Preceding him in death are his brother Kenneth McLemore and sister Glenda Kanger.
Visitation will be held Feb. 10 at Fredrick & Son McClure Utt Funeral Home Vincennes Chapel, 313 Church St, 11 a.m to 1 p.m., with a service at 1 p.m. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers and in honor of Jerry’s love and appreciation of trade skills, donations can be made in his honor to the Lincoln High School automotive program or to Helping His Hands Disaster Response.
