George M. Newman, 98, passed away at 5:30 am on February 6, 2022 at Colonial Assisted Living. George was born on October 30, 1923 in Vincennes and he was the son of Jim and Mary (Hill) Newman. George married Evelyn Williams on August 30, 1948 and she preceded him in death on March 16, 2016.
George was a member of Community United Methodist Church and worked as a meter reader for PSI/Duke Energy. He was a member of the Vincennes and Oaktown Gun Club’s, the American Legion and enjoyed shooting trap and skeet, hunting, fishing, and playing cards. George also enjoyed going on golf cart rides, and family get together’s. He had a really good connection and bond with fitting in with the younger generation and the younger generation thought a lot of George.
Survivors include his children, son’s, Dave Newman and his wife Patty of Cypress, TX., Jeff Newman and his wife Julie of Vincennes; his daughter, Chris McCrary and her husband Troy of Vincennes; daughter-in-law, Denise Newman of Vincennes; grandchildren, Eric Newman and his wife Lori, Travis Newman, Kevin Newman, Jessica Swan and her husband Jason, Jenna Lankford and her husband Clay, Corbin, Trent, and Lauren McCrary, and ten great grandchildren. George is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Evelyn Newman, his son, Thom Newman ,his grandson, Brad Newman, his great grandson, Cole Newman, and his siblings, Mable Frisz, Gladys Shakleford, Reba Tolbert, and Carlos, Howard, and Ralph Newman.
Friends may visit with George’s family from 4:00 pm until the hour of service time of 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes, IN. George’s funeral service will begin at 7:00 pm and Tony Burkhart will officiate. George will be laid to rest next to his wife Evelyn in Memorial Park Cemetery at a date to be determined. The Newman family has requested memorial contributions be made in George’s name to Good Samaritan Hospice, 601 S. 9th St., Vincennes, IN 47591.
