The Washington Hatchets fell short last night against 11th ranked Brownstown Central 71-49. The Hatchets stayed with them in the first half but the Braves pulled away in the second to secure the win. Washington was led by Joah Horrall with 18 points. The Hatchets were without Logan Riester who continues to nurse an ankle sprain. Jack Benter led all scorers with 32 for Brownstown Central. Washington sophomore wrestler Brady Byrd will compete tomorrow in the Evansville Semi State at the Ford Center. Byrd advanced in the 106 pound weight class and is looking to punch his ticket to state. Good luck to Brady Byrd tomorrow at semi state. Omar Mora will also travel to Evansville tomorrow as an alternate in the 170 pound class.
Michigan dominated third-ranked Purdue 82-58 Thursday night in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines hit 12 3-pointers, while the Boilermakers were held to 4-of-18 from beyond the arc. Hunter Dickinson led all scorers with 22 points, and Eli Brooks made all four 3-point attempts and scored 18. Jaden Ivey led Purdue with 18 points. The Boilers turned it over 14 times and had just five assists. Purdue had its six-game winning streak snapped, and dropped to 21-4 with a 10-4 mark in the Big Ten, falling to third in the conference. Michigan improved to 13-9 overall and 7-5 in conference play. The game was originally scheduled for last month, but was rescheduled due to COVID-19 issues within the Wolverines program at the time. The Boilermakers return home to host Maryland Sunday at Mackey Arena.
The new-look Indiana Pacers make their debut Friday night at home against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Tyrese Haliburton, Buddy Hield and Tristan Thompson will be in Blue and Gold for the first time after being acquired from the Sacramento Kings earlier this week. The Cavaliers have been one of the surprise teams in the NBA this season. Cleveland is 34-21, tied for third in the Eastern Conference. Caris LeVert will make his return to Indiana after being traded to the Cavs Sunday. LeVert scored 11 points in his debut Wednesday night, a win over the Spurs. The Cavaliers beat the Pacers Sunday night in Cleveland, and are 2-0 against the Blue and Gold this season. Indiana will try to snap a four-game losing streak Friday night at 7 p.m. Eastern at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said Thursday that center Myles Turner will not return until after the All-Star break due to a foot injury that has kept him out since last month. The Pacers’ first game after the break is February 25th, which means it will be at least two weeks until he suits up. Turner has not played since January 14th due to a stress reaction in his foot. Carlisle added that guard Malcolm Brogdon is close to a return, but still nursing a sore Achilles.
