
The IHSAA Sectional pairings were released yesterday for the annual boys tournament which begins next week.
Here are the match-ups:
In Class A at Loogootee, North Daviess faces Washington Catholic, while Loogootee opens against Orleans. Shoals will play the North Daviess and WC winner, while Barr Reeve awaits the Loogootee and Orleans winner.
In 2A at North Knox, North Knox will play Eastern Greene in game one, Mitchell and South Knox face off in the semifinals, and Linton will play the winner of North Knox and Eastern Greene.
At Princeton in the 3A Sectional, it’s Princeton and Pike Central in the opener, Washington will play Sullivan in the semifinals, and Vincennes Lincoln will play the winner of Pike Central and Princeton. The boys sectionals kick off one week from tomorrow.
Tonight, the Washington Hatchets will celebrate senior night as they host Pike Central. Live coverage starts at 7:15 pm on Memories 107.9fm.
The Barr-Reeve Vikings improved their record to 15-7 on the season with a 58-43 win over Southridge Raiders at home on Saturday night. Hagan Knepp led the Vikings with 18 and Kayden Graber was next with 10 as 7 players scored in the balanced attack. In the JV Contest the Vikings improved to 17-3 with a 61-29 victory. The Vikings will close out the regular season on Friday as they host Bloomfield.
The girls basketball state finals are set for Saturday as the eight remaining teams play for four state titles. The 1A game will start the day at 10:30 am and features Tecumseh against Lafayette Central Catholic. In the 2A finale, it’s Forest Park against Frankton. We will have live coverage of these two games on the General 95.9 / 101.3fn Saturday morning. In the night session, the 3A championship at 6:00 pm pits South Bend Washington against Silver Creek, and in the 4A championship, Franklin plays Noblesville. Rookie Austin Cindric won the 64th running of the Daytona 500 yesterday in dramatic fashion. Two collisions occurred in the final ten laps of the race, the first one happening at lap 193 was a six car collision in which Cindric was involved. The second crash, with only 5 laps to go, caused a yellow flag which would send the race into overtime. Resetting with only two laps to race Cindric held off passing attempts from Ryan Blaney and Bubba Wallace emerging victorious in his eighth NASCAR Cup start. Cindric is the second rookie to win the Daytona 500 since Trevor Bayne in 2011.
The Indiana Hoosiers will be facing off against the eighteenth ranked Ohio State Buckeyes tonight in a Big Ten Conference match-up. The Hoosiers enter this game 16-9 overall but with a losing record of 7-8 in games against conference opponents. Indiana has lost their last four games, all against conference opponents. Their last game against Ohio State was at home with the Hoosiers emerging victorious 67 – 51. Tip-off in Columbus begins at 7:00 EST.
Fifth ranked Purdue Boilermakers defeated the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at home yesterday 84 – 72. Guard Jaden Ivey had a stand-out performance scoring 25 points with 39 minutes played. Foul trouble was the ultimate downfall for Rutgers as Purdue took 29 free-throws off of 24 fouls over the course of the night. The Boilermakers advance to 24-4 on the season. They will take on nineteenth ranked Michigan State on Saturday, February 26th at Michigan.
