The Washington Hatchets topped Pike Central last night on senior night at the Hatchet House 55-30. Brycen Neidigh and Joah Horrall had 13 points each, while Tyler Boyd added 12. Quade Morton led all scorers with 16 for the Chargers. Washington will wrap up the regular season at Evansville Memorial on Friday, Pike Central faces South Knox tonight.
Washington Catholic will host Evansville Day School at the Bird Cage tonight.
Shoals is at Mitchell.
Vincennes Lincoln will host Terre Haute South.
Washington High School BPA’s 13th annual seniors vs faculty game will be tomorrow night at the Hatchet House. The 3 point shoot-out starts at 6:00 pm and the game starts at 7:15. Admission is only $5. This is a fun night. Proceeds will go to BPA .
Indiana blew a late lead and lost at Ohio State 80-69 in overtime Monday night. The Hoosiers led the 22nd-ranked Buckeyes by four with a minute to go in regulation, and were outscored 21-6 the rest of the way. IU has now lost five straight games and has yet to win in February. Tamar Bates missed a 3-pointer with 28 seconds left that would have given IU a five-point lead. The Hoosiers had a defensive miscommunication that led to an E.J. Liddell dunk with six seconds to go, and Xavier Johnson’s 3-pointer at the buzzer was blocked. Malaki Branham led Ohio State with 27 points, and Liddell added 16. Johnson led IU with 16, but fouled out late in overtime. Trayce Jackson-Davis added 13 points, but had just three after halftime. The Hoosiers were thin at guard once again, as Rob Phinisee, Trey Galloway and Khristian Lander all missed the game due to injury. Ohio State was playing its fourth game in eight days, while IU had not played since last Tuesday night. The Hoosiers are 16-10 and return home to host Maryland Thursday night.
Purdue gained one spot in Monday’s Associated Press college basketball poll. The Boilermakers moved up to number four in the country after beating Northwestern and Rutgers last week. Purdue is 24-4 and is off until Saturday, when the Boilers play at Michigan State. Matt Painter’s team leapfrogged Kentucky, which lost to Tennessee last week and fell from fourth to sixth. Gonzaga was a unanimous number one, followed by Arizona, Auburn, Purdue and Kansas.
The Big Ten is suspending Michigan’s men’s head basketball coach Juwan Howard for the rest of the regular season. Howard got in the face of Wisconsin’s head coach on Sunday, taking issue with a timeout that was taken late in the game. Ultimately other coaches and players got involved to separate the two head coaches. Then Juwan Howard threw a punch. Howard will be back courtside after the regular season. He also faces a $40,000 dollar fine. Wisconsin head coach Greg Gard was fined $10,000 dollars but did not get a suspension. CBS basketball analyst Avery Johnson says the incident was bad for college basketball.
