Wilmer Wittmer, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on February 23, 2022. Wilmer was 92 years old, born on June 15, 1929 in Montgomery, Indiana. He was the son of Catherine (Stoll) and David Wittmer. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Rosie, who he married on May 14, 1949.
Wilmer enjoyed attending Providence Mennonite Church. The church and its Pastor, Kevin Swartzentruber, were very important to him and Rosie. Wilmer was a hard-working, life-long farmer in Daviess County. He owned an excavation business and in his early working years supported his family working part-time as an auto and machinery mechanic for Riggins Garage. He was a very successful but modest entrepreneur. Wilmer was recognized in the community as a skilled, heavy machinery operator, mechanic and farmer, always priding himself in doing business in the right, fair and equitable way.
In his leisure time, Wilmer enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren taking vacations to various places including a family favorite, Orange Beach, Alabama.
Family left to cherish the memory of Wilmer include: his wife, Rosie Wittmer; his children, son, Darrell (Karen) Wittmer of Louisville, KY; daughters, Dorothy (Tim) Ellis of Bloomington, Sharon (Pete) Mallatt of Vincennes and Linda (Bruce) Boje of Cicero, IN; his grandchildren, Tim Ellis, Joan Ellis, Beth Ellis, Leigh Boje, Matthew Boje, Christina Kamelhair, Natalie Groff, David Wittmer and Michael Wittmer; his six great-grandchildren, Paige and Leo Kamelhair, Elena and Nora Groff and Ruth and Aaron Wilmer Wittmer. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Nancy Wittmer, Jean (Ervin) Yoder, Mildred (Simon) Lengacher and brother-in-law, Joe Wagler, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Wilmer in death were his parents and brothers, Elmer (Viola), Amos (Agnes) and Ora.
Due to Covid, a private service with the immediate family will be held to celebrate the life of Wilmer in the chapel at Parkview Village Christian Care. Wilmer will be laid to rest in Providence Mennonite Cemetery in Montgomery.
Rosie and her family have requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Parkview Village Christian Care, 800 S. West St., Odon, IN 47562.
