City Council Looking at Tax Abatement for New Apartments

The Washington City Council took additional steps to provide needed housing for Washington and Daviess County last night.
After hearing from Daviess County Economic Development Executive Director, Bryant Niehoff, the Council adopted a preliminary resolution approving a potential 5-year tax abatement on the Cyprus Point Apartment project.
Projections say Washington and Daviess County will need 1000 new residences before 2030.
The proposed 6 building apartment complex will create 143 new housing units.
The apartments are planned to be constructed behind Casey’s on East National Highway.
The proposal requires future action by the Washington Economic Commission, and a declaratory resolution by the Council before going into effect.
