Indiana and Purdue face off Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Mackey Arena in the regular-season finale. The Hoosiers snapped a nine-game skid against their arch rivals with a victory over the Boilers at Assembly Hall in January. Rob Phinisee scored 20 points, including a game-winning 3-pointer in the final minute. The Hoosiers need a victory to put themselves back on the right side of the NCAA tournament bubble, while the Boilers are looking to end a two-game losing streak. It will be the final game in Mackey Arena for Purdue seniors Trevion Williams, Sasha Stefanovic and Eric Hunter, and will very likely be the last home game for sophomore Jaden Ivey, who is almost assuredly headed to the NBA. Elsewhere Saturday, Butler hosts 11th ranked Villanova at Hinkle Fieldhouse at noon, and Notre Dame looks to secure the number two seed in the ACC Tournament when the Fighting Irish host Pittsburgh at 2:30 p.m. Eastern.
Indiana State’s season came to an end with a 58-53 loss to Illinois State in the first round of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament in St. Louis. The Sycamores finished the season 11-20. Valparaiso defeated Evansville 81-59. The seventh-seeded Beacons advanced to play number two seed Missouri State in the MVC quarterfinals Friday night at 7 Eastern. The Purple Aces ended the season 6-24, the fewest wins in a full season for the program since 1938. In the Horizon League quarterfinals, Purdue Fort Wayne defeated UIC 78-72 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. The Mastodons have won 10 games in a row and will face Northern Kentucky Monday in Indianapolis in the semifinals.
The Indiana Pacers are on the road Friday night to face the Detroit Pistons. The Pacers are 22-42 after coming from behind to beat the Magic in overtime Wednesday. Pacers guard Chris Duarte is questionable with a toe injury that has kept him out of four of the last six games. Friday night’s contest at Little Caesars Arena marks the third of four matchups between the Central Division foes so far this season. Detroit beat Indiana at home in November, and the Pacers returned the favor at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in December. The Pistons will be on the second night of a back-to-back after holding off a late comeback to beat the Raptors in Toronto. Detroit is 16-47, one of just four teams in the NBA with fewer wins than Indiana. Pacers center Myles Turner returned to the practice court Thursday, and posted on Instagram “Day 1 of running.” Turner has not played since January 14th due to a foot injury. The Pacers and Pistons get underway at 7 p.m. Eastern.
