Ronald L. “Gov” Burris, 78, of Loogootee, passed away at 8:50 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center.
He was born June 10, 1943, in Loogootee, Indiana to the late Virgil and Mary Alberta (Norris) Burris.
Gov was a United States Air Force veteran and served overseas in Germany. He retired from United Minerals in the early 2000’s as an operator. He loved farming and being with his grandchildren. Gov was known for keeping an eye on his neighborhood and for driving EXTRA slow. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church and the St. Martin Men’s Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Mary Alberta Burris; brothers, Joe (Kay) Burris and Michael Burris; sisters, Betty McDonald, Helen (Doc) Colvin and Mary Melinda Burris.
Gov is survived by his children, Jackie Foddrill of Jasper and Ryan (Alicia) Burris of Montgomery; grandchildren, Grace Foddrill, Addisyn Burris, Chase Burris, Phillip Fellers, Alan Fellers and Erica Fellers; siblings, Richard Burris of Indianapolis, Gary (Wanda) Burris of Loogootee and Carol (Ron) Boyd of Loogootee; brother-in-law, Jerome McDonald of Columbus; sister-in-law, Helen Burris of Loogootee; many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker and concelebrant, Rev. Sudhakar Bhastati, at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at St. Martin Catholic Church in Whitfield. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Martin Catholic Church in Whitfield.
