Margaret A. Compton, 72, passed away at 1:25 am on March 7, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Margaret was born on December 24, 1949 in Pekin, IL and she was the daughter of George J. and Kathryn (Hires) Geheb.
Margaret was baptized of the Catholic Faith and had a deep spiritual and personal intimate relationship with the Lord. She was a 1968 graduate of St. Rose Academy, a 1970 graduate of Vincennes University, and a 1972 graduate of Murray State University. Margaret was a very selfless individual who touched many people. She and her husband Steve were very active in the local recovery community, and they both served on the Board of Directors of the Knox County Drug Court Foundation. Margaret enjoyed vacationing in Okaloosa Island, FL with her husband and dogs making over twenty-five trips there. She also enjoyed watching all of her grandchildren’s sporting activities and all the activities they participated in.
Survivors include her mother, Kathryn Geheb of Vincennes; her husband, Steve Compton of Vincennes whom she married June 16, 2000; son, Ryan M. Cannon and his significant other Monica A. Koler of Gilbert, AZ.; bonus daughters, Keesha Peterson and her husband Chad of Mt. Carmel, IL, Christy McPherson and her husband Doug of Mt. Carmel, IL, her grandchildren, Carys Cannon, Kaitlyn Jones, Emily Jones, Ethan Peterson, Brayden Peterson and his wife Carmen, Trevor Peterson and his girlfriend Addison Drone, Allie McPherson; her siblings, Greg Geheb and his wife Kathy, Mary Primus and her husband Robert, Christina Stinson, Janet Sievers and her husband Mark, Donna Kaiser and her husband Michael, Mark Geheb and his wife Kimberly; her feisty dog, Missy. and numerous nieces, nephews and other family friends who loved her dearly. Margaret is preceded in death by her father, two infant daughters, Morgan and Meghan, son, Jared Cannon, her siblings, George A. Geheb, Susan Kroeger, Barbara Dame, and her sweet dog Buddy.
Friends may visit with Margaret’s family from 4-7 pm on Wednesday, March 10, 2022 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway and from 7-8 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home for the Recovery Community. A visitation will also be held prior to the Mass on Thursday from 9-10 am at Goodwin-Sievers funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, March 11, 2022 at Old Cathedral Catholic Church, 205 Church St., Vincennes, IN 47591 with Rev. Tony Ernst celebrating. Margaret will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Compton family has requested memorial contributions be made to Friends of the Knox County Public Library for Margaret’s Recovery Project or the Knox County Drug Court Foundation.
