Knox County Passes New Tax to Fund Ambulance Service

The Knox County Council passed a public safety local income tax on Thursday.
The tax rate is 0.5%. and will provide the money needed to fund a reliable ambulance service.
WTHI reports the county was in danger of losing consistent ambulance service because Knox County EMS, the county’s go-to provider for 25 years, did not have the cash flow it needed to survive.
Now, Knox County will have to decide which ambulance provider will take on the job.
They have received a proposal from Knox County EMS as well as proposals from AMR Ambulance in Evansville and Good Samaritan Hospital.
