A man is being treated following a shooting incident with Daviess County Sheriff’s Deputies in Cannelburg.
Authorities say a woman called dispatch just before 7:00 am on Thursday requesting a welfare check on her father. The caller noted her father was an 80-year-old cancer patient who was suffering from dementia. She said he had harmed himself with a shotgun.
Officers arrived on scene to find the man barricaded in a detached garage. When deputies tried to speak with the subject, the subject fired shots from the garage.
Officers made several attempts to verbally communicate with the man and even deployed CS gas which was only met with more gunfire. Eventually the man drove a car through the closed garage door and crashed it into one of the patrol vehicles. Deputies then took the male into custody without further incident and transported him to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.
The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office also sent a report to the Prosecutor’s Office and Circuit Court to enact the Red Flag Gun Law and seize the weapons.
