A suspect believed to be involved in recent thefts in Washington was arrested in Vincennes yesterday evening.
Just before 5:00 pm on Friday, officers with the Vincennes Police Department were responding to a domestic disturbance with their lights and sirens activated.
While in route to the scene, a vehicle in front of the officers accelerated rapidly and was recognized as a suspect vehicle in several recent thefts in Washington. An officer on scene of the domestic disturbance advised everything was fine and told the other officers to continue with the pursuit.
During the pursuit, police were able to identify the driver as 39-year-old Hyla A. Richter. The vehicle eventually stopped near 16th & Miller Avenue. Richter then exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended shortly after.
During the investigation, suspected methamphetamine was located inside the vehicle.
Richter was arrested and booked into the Knox County Jail and is charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and two counts of Resisting Law Enforcement.
A passenger during the pursuit was released from the scene.
