Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Indiana

national-weather-service

Governor Eric Holcomb has proclaimed this week (March 13-19, 2022) to be Severe Weather Preparedness Week in the state of Indiana.
As part of National Weather Service efforts to build a Weather Ready Nation, the goal of Severe Weather Preparedness Week is to better educate people about the hazards of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes, in addition to helping everyone be prepared when severe weather occurs.
Each day will focus on a different topic. Today, focuses on Severe Weather Outlooks and Watches.
Long before any warnings are issued, the National Weather Service offices provide up to a week’s notice of potential severe weather. Likewise, media partners, public officials, and response agencies, begin preparations long before storms cause damage.
Watches for severe weather are your signal to get ready to take safe action. For thunderstorms, the National Weather Service typically issues watches several hours before damaging weather occurs.
