The Daviess County Commissioners met for their regular meeting on Tuesday. Chris Winkler reported on project updates from the highway department. He said crews will begin working on concrete stabilization and paving preparation this week on 900 East from 100 North to 200 North. Paving is expected to get underway in May. Winkler also reported on the Montgomery Bridge Project and stated that they are awaiting grant approval before they can move forward.
Commissioner Michael Taylor noted during the meeting that Odon was able to secure the INDOT grant needed for the West Street Project. The project will widen the road from Park Street to Maple Street making it easier and safer for trucks to travel. The project has been backed by Daviess County leaders who will be supporting Odon with some funds.
In other business, the board approved a request from the Health Department for a $15,000 draw from the state health department. The funds will be used for case management of blood lead levels in children. The board also approved a 50% matching grant for the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department. Those funds will be used to purchase new protective vests for officers. The vests must be replaced every 5 years.
Finally, the board approved a contract with Baker Tilly for financial consulting services and approved a construction grant for the Daviess County Airport runway extension. Commissioner Michael Taylor noted the designs were completed for the project and will soon go out to bid.
