Joseph Sellers

Joseph A. Sellers, 63, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Wednesday, March 30, 2022. Joe was born on May 14, 1958, to Flavian Alvin and Mary Claudine (Lents) Sellers. Joe was the fifth of ten children.
He was a 1976 graduate of Barr-Reeve High School in Montgomery, Indiana.
On April 18, 1980, he married the love of his life, Sherry (Bodine) Sellers. Together, they raised four boys: Jared, Eric, Joey and Rob.
Devoted to the church, Joe served in the ministry as a deacon, a Bible class teacher, and as a houseparent at Potter Children’s Home. He dedicated his life to helping others in need. After decades of public service, Joe retired in 2018 as the superintendent of the gas department at the Mt. Carmel Public Utility Company.
Joe was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He collected and repaired Swiss Army knives. He was a self-taught mechanic and tinkerer. He listened to Christian music and audiobooks from his favorite fantasy novels. He watched TV shows like Jeopardy and Star Trek. Most of all, Joe enjoyed visits and spending time with his nine grandchildren.
Family who now cherish Joe’s memory include: his wife, Sherry Sellers, his four children: Jared (Leah) Sellers, Eric Sellers, Joey (Kara) Sellers, and Rob (Rivers) Sellers; his nine grandchildren: Ethan, Gari, Evie, Archer, Wyatt, Ruthie, Norah, Luke and Charlie; and his siblings: Judy Sellers, Phil (Denise) Sellers, Vince (Mary Jo) Sellers, Rita (Craig) Halstead, Mark (Rebecca) Sellers, and Flavian Sellers, Jr.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents as well as his siblings: Anna Schapker, James Sellers, and Carol Sellers.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that contributions be made to: Siteman Cancer Center, MSC 1204, 7425 Forsyth Blvd., St. Louis, Missouri 63105. Please write “in memory of Joseph Sellers” on the memo line of your check.
Visitation will be Friday, April 8, 2022, at 11:00 am, EST, with the memorial service following at 11:30 am, EST, at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary, North Chapel, 620 East Viola Avenue, Washington, Indiana.
