The National Park Service is investigating a widespread theft of panel covers for the historic bronze lampposts within the George Rogers Clark National Historical Park.
The lampposts were installed in 1932 and surround the park grounds including the George Rogers Clark Memorial.
Park officials say panels were removed from 22 lamp posts and another four had the screws loosened in preparation for removal.
The panel covers are 14” by 11” at their widest point and weigh approximately 9 pounds each.
If anyone has information related to the removal or possession of these historic items, you are asked to please contact the park at (812)-882-1776 or email joey_herron@nps.gov.
Park officials note the details, such as seeing someone tampering with the lamppost or noticing when they were missing, can help the park establish a timeline.
Tips will be kept anonymous.
