Congratulations to North Daviess Junior basketball standout Jaylen Mullen who will join the Junior All Star Team this year. He is the first Cougar to receive this honor. Mullen will join the rest of his team to play the Kentucky Junior All Stars on June 5th. Joey Hart from Linton will also be a part of the team this year.
The Major League Baseball season opened yesterday with seven games in the Big Leagues. Ian Happ homered and later hit a tie-breaking, two-run double in the seventh, and the Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-4 at Wrigley Field. The Kansas City Royals defeated the Cleveland Guardians 3-1. Baseball’s top prospect Bobby Witt Jr.’s first career hit was a go-ahead RBI double for K.C. in the eighth inning. Tyler O’Neill drove in five, and the St. Louis Cardinals dominated the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-0. Adam Wainwright picked up the victory after striking out six over six scoreless frames. The Cincinnati Reds spoiled the party in Atlanta, with a 6-3 win over the defending World Series champion Braves.
The NTT IndyCar Series returns to Southern California this weekend for the historic Grand Prix of Long Beach. The prestigious street race returns to its traditional April date for the first time since 2019. Last September, Long Beach served as the season finale; with Colton Herta taking the checkered flag and Alex Palou capturing the season championship. The Indiana Pacers will wrap up the season this weekend with road games at Philadelphia and Brooklyn. Coach Rick Carlisle said Thursday that he will be back to coach the Pacers next season amid rumors he was potentially vying for a move into a front office role. Carlisle said he is not afraid of any aspect of a rebuild, and said Pacers fans have a lot to look forward to. The Blue and Gold have lost a season-high eight straight games to fall to 25-55. Indiana and Philly tip off at 1 p.m. Eastern Saturday.
