The Washington Softball team suffered a tough loss falling to Shakamak 12-11. The Lakers scored four runs in the last inning securing a come from behind win. Hatchet Softball drops to 0-4 on the season.
Loogootee Softball team defeated Princeton with a walk-off hit by Katelyn Mason 9-8.
The Hatchet baseball team picked up a win at home last night topping Mt Vernon 11-6. Ole Krueger went yard for his first varsity home run to pace the Hatchet offense. Washington moves to 3-4 on the season and will play at Loogootee today.
North Daviess suffered a tough loss to Tecumseh 6-5.  The Cougars travel to Shoals today.
Loogootee defeated Vincennes Lincoln in nine innings with a walk off shot by Luke Lengacher for a 3-2 win.
The Washington girls tennis team went to 2-1 on the season with a 5-0 shut out win at South Knox.
The Loogootee girls tennis team shut out NE Dubois 5-0.

The IHSAA announced classifications yesterday for high school basketball, football, soccer and volleyball. The North Daviess Cougars will move up to 2A in boys basketball due to enrollment, but remain in 1A for football. The girls will also be in 2A for basketball and volleyball. Barr Reeve will stay in 3A next year for volleyball, while Loogootee stays in 2A in girls basketball due to success factor. Sectional assignments will be announced at a later date.
Former Indiana point guard Rob Phinisee has narrowed his transfer options to Butler and Cincinnati. The Lafayette native averaged 4.5 points per game this past season for the Hoosiers in 18 minutes per game. In four seasons at IU, Phinisee averaged 6.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. The 6-foot-1 guard has one year of eligibility remaining due to the NCAA’s COVID waiver from the 2020 season. He scored 20 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer in the final seconds of IU’s home upset over Purdue in January. New Butler coach Thad Matta was an associate AD at Indiana this past season, and is looking for a point guard with Aaron Thompson moving on after five seasons.
The Cleveland Guardians scored six runs in the ninth inning to beat the Cincinnati Reds 10-5 in the Reds’ home opener at Great American Ball Park. Andres Gimenez hit a 2-run home run to break a 4-all tie, and Jose Ramirez opened it up with a grand slam. Reds president and chief operating officer Phil Castellini made headlines earlier in the day Tuesday when he appeared on 700 WLW. When asked about his response to frustrated fans, Castellini responded “Where are you gonna go?” and told fans to be careful what they ask for, saying the only way to make the team more profitable would be to move it. Castellini, the son of Reds owner Bob Castellini, doubled down on his comments in an interview with WLWT before later apologizing.
Chicago Cubs rookie sensation Seiya Suzuki homered twice, and the Cubs defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-1. Suzuki has three homers in four games, and Chicago is 3-1. Drew Smyly earned the win after giving up three hits in five shutout innings. Albert Pujols hit his first home run for the Cardinals since the 2011 World Series, and St. Louis went on to defeat the Kansas City Royals 6-5. Andrew Knizner’s 3-run home run in the fourth inning broke a 3-all tie, as the Cards beat their in-state rival for the 20th time in 27 tries.
Luis Robert hit a solo home run, stole two bases and scored a key insurance run, and the Chicago White Sox held on to beat the Seattle Mariners 3-2. Robert also made a running catch against the wall in center field to save a run, as the White Sox won their third straight in their first home game of the season. Rafael Devers had a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth, and the Boston Red Sox came back to defeat the Detroit 5-3 at Comerica Park.
