An Evansville woman was arrested and charged with neglect after two children were left unattended on Wednesday.
Police initially spotted a three-year-old wandering outside in a parking lot before determining that he lived in a nearby apartment.
When the officers arrived at the apartment, they found an open doorway, a one-year-old with a full diaper, no furniture, and scattered trash.
No one else was home.
The mother, and resident of the apartment, 20-year-old Medjina Augustin was contacted by phone and said she was at an appointment and was returning home.
The Department of Child Services took the children, and Augustin was taken to Vanderburgh County Jail.
