Commissioners Move Forward with Blighted Property Plan

At Tuesday’s Daviess County Board of Commissioners Meeting, Commissioner Nathan Gabhart reported on the blighted property situation.
Gabhart, Councilman Matt Meredith, and Councilwoman Marilyn McCullough recently spoke with City of Washington about a plan for cleaning up the properties.
Officials were able to agree on a proposed plan where the county would hire a contracted individual to work 20-25 hours a week identifying blighted properties around municipalities. The contracted individual would then coordinate clean up with the City of Washington. The board agreed to move ahead with the idea.
In other business, the board agreed to hire RQAW as the Architect for the courthouse renovation project, pending approval from other officials.
The board also received sealed bids for a 2023 dump truck.
Lastly, the board accepted the resignation of County Auditor Patty Ball. Her last day will be July 15, 2022. The position is term limited so she will soon begin training the new auditor to take over.
Patty Ball received high praise for her work over the years in Daviess County in an emotional end to Tuesday’s meeting.
