Ronald Wayne Woods, 84, of Campbelltown, passed away Monday May 16 at Gateway Hospital. He was born to Vernie Simon Woods and Virdia Olive (Nance) Woods on Sept 5, 1937 in Campbelltown, IN. He married Ruth A. Griffith on July 12 1958 at Pleasant Ridge General Baptist Church. His father was the minister for the wedding. Ruth preceded him in death on Dec, 15, 2009.
Two brothers preceded him in death, Bill and Ernest Woods. He is survived by his daughter, Renee Pirkle. Two nephews, Leon and Larry Woods also survive.
He worked at Whirlpool from which he retired in 2002. He was Caretaker for Pleasant Ridge Cemetery for over four decades. He was Past Master of the Winslow Masonic Lodge; member of the Scottish Rite and The Sword of Bunker Hill. The motto for The Sword of Bunker Hill is “When We Meet We Eat”. Ron loved to go out and eat while enjoying the company of others. He was fun loving and enjoyed teasing and quick witted comebacks. He was active in both Pleasant Ridge General Baptist Church and Petersburg First Church of God where he attended until the Covid Pandemic. He was a hardworking man that enjoyed life and held no grudges. He spent the last 3 years living with his daughter who will miss him even though he called her a grumpy boss.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 Thursday May 19 at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Campbelltown, IN. Please in lieu of flowers donate to the Salvation Army or St Jude’s Children’s Hospital or a worthy charity of your choice. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
