The third time is a charm as the Vincennes Girls tennis sectional was again rained out last night. Tonight at 4:30 pm, Washington will play Rivet at South Knox. The match has been moved to South Knox due to graduation at Lincoln. The second match will follow featuring the winner against Washington Catholic. Tomorrow back at Vincennes, Lincoln will play South Knox at 10:00 am and the championship will follow.
Jasper beat Southridge yesterday 5-0 to claim their own sectional championship at Jasper.
At Linton, North Daviess will now face White River Valley tomorrow at 9am, while Bloomfield plays Linton. The championship will follow the first matches.
Tecumseh edged out Barr Reeve yesterday in baseball 6-5.
South Knox blanked Shoals 17-0 in baseball
Washington and North Daviess was called off due to rain. They will try again tomorrow morning at 10:00 am at North Daviess.
Kaden Buse finished first in the 400 meter dash for Barr Reeve. Washington was third in the 3200 meter relay to advance to regionals. Kenny Lavasseur was second to advance in the high jump for the Hatchets. Gibson Southern, Princeton, and South Knox took the top three spots as a team at the boys track and field sectional in Princeton yesterday.
Vincennes Golfer Adam Schenk sank a 40-foot birdie on the 16th hole to end the day at one over in the PGA tournament in Oklahoma. Schenk made it in to the tournament when Davis Love III had to withdraw on Saturday. Schenk stands at a 71 in the biggest tournament of his five year PGA career. Play continues today. Tiger Woods is taking part in the PGA Championship. This is only his second tournament since last year’s near fatal crash. And it was not a good opening round. He shot four over par. He is nine strokes behind the leader Rory McElroy. Right now, Tiger is tied for 104th place. He will need to play better in round two to qualify for the weekend. Last month at the Masters he finished 47th.
The Chicago Cubs gave up three runs in the fourth as they fell to Arizona, 3-1. Marcus Stroman suffered his 4th loss of the season, while Gallen remained perfect (3-0) going 5 innings for the win. In Cleveland, the Reds rallied in the 8th to tally three runs and completed the sweep of the Guardians, 4-2. Tyler Naquin homered in the win for the Reds. In New York, the Cardinals tied the game in the ninth but fell to the Mets, 7-6, in ten innings. Cardinals’ closer Giovanny Gallegos (0-2) was charged with the loss.
Practice resumed Thursday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as cars were on the track for just shy of 6 hours. Once again, Takuma Sato posted the fastest lap of the day at 227.519 mph, and another past winner, Scott Dixon, came in second (227.335 mph). Jimmie Johnson continued his preparation for his first running of the Indy 500, as he finished with the fifth quickest lap of the day. Another practice session is slated for today from noon to 6pm.
