Our Community Foundation has awarded a grant to Oak Grove Caretakers to help the organization care for Washington’s Oak Grove Cemetery.
Rene Bean with Oak Grove Caretakers says the grant will help with the cost of caring for the cemetery, specifically mowing the cemetery.
He says the cost for gasoline for mowers alone runs about $7,500 per year.
Oak Grove Caretakers relies on donations and grants such as this one to care for the cemetery.
Travis Schaffer, Chairperson of the Foundation’s Grant Committee and a member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, says the Committee recommended the grant to the Board because it supports the charitable work that Oak Grove Caretakers does to beautify and improve Daviess County’s public spaces and to preserve history.
The grant was awarded through the Foundation’s mini grant program, made possible through gifts by donors to discretionary funds.
