It was victory No. 3 of the season for Josef Newgarden on Sunday from the Sonsio Grand Prix at Road America. The win also unlocked a $1 million bonus to the first driver to win on all three types of circuits — road courses, street circuits and oval tracks — each season. $500,000 will go to the Nashville native while the other half of the bonus will go to a charity of Newgarden’s choosing. Indy 500 winner Marcus Ericsson finished in second reclaiming the points race lead from Will Power and Alexander Rossi backed up his runner up finish at Belle Isle with a third place finish at Road America.
Notre Dame baseball is headed to Omaha and the College World Series. The Fighting Irish defeated No. 1 overall seed Tennessee 2-1 in the best of three Super Regional series. The Irish handed the Volunteers just there eighth and ninth losses all season including a 7-3 win on Sunday afternoon. Tennessee controlled a 3-1 lead heading into the seventh inning before Notre Dame scored six unanswered runs thanks to a pair of home runs in the seventh and timely hitting in the eighth. Notre Dame will make it’s first trip to the College World Series since 2002.
A pair of expected lottery picks will be in Indianapolis this week to workout with the Indiana Pacers ahead of June 23’s NBA Draft. On Monday, Duke forward AJ Griffin will participate in an individual workout with the blue and gold.The talented wing has serious lower body injury history missing almost half of his high school career and he wasn’t healthy at Duke for the beginning of the season. On Tuesday, Wisconsin Badger Johnny Davis will workout for the organization. The reigning Big Ten Player of the Year and consensus all-american averaged 19.7 points and eight rebounds last year.
