A man from Louisiana is facing multiple charges following a Tuesday morning police chase. The Dubois County Sheriff’s Office reports that 38-year-old William Tatum of West Monroe, Louisiana, stole a utility van and led police on a several-mile chase. Authorities say the vehicle traveled from I-64 onto State Road 162 in Dubois County.
Police activated their emergency lights, but the driver refused to stop. The driver led police into the Jasper City limits, where stop sticks were deployed. According to a police report, the driver drove over the sticks and kept going, reaching speeds as high as 100 mph.
The van eventually came to a stop near the ACK Inc. gas station after running over some railroad tracks and a temporary fence. Police say the driver then fled on foot but was later apprehended at EHH Trucking when he was found hiding between two trailers.
Tatum was arrested and booked into the Dubois County Jail. He is charged with resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, criminal recklessness, vehicle theft, resisting law enforcement on foot, aggressive driving, reckless driving, operating a vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a metabolite.
