William “Joe” Brenton

William “Joe” Brenton CSM USA Retired, 72, of Petersburg, passed away August 10, 2022. He was born December 11, 1949 to David Joseph and Beatrice (Colvin) Brenton in Washington, IN.
Joe graduated from Petersburg High School in 1967. He proudly served in the United States Army and retired after 35 years of service. While serving he earned ranks such as Platoon Sergeant, 1st Sergeant, and Battalion Sergeant Major and was stationed in various places throughout his service such as Herzo Base West Germany, Asmara Ethiopia ASA Field Station, and Kandahar Air Field Garrison. Joe retired as a Command Sergeant Major.
He worked for Artec division Kimball Int. for 20 years and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 10 years. He was also a member of the Winslow American Legion, the Petersburg VFW Post #3587, and Petersburg Moose Lodge #1617.
Joe was married to Janet Elaine Selby from 1972 to 1994 and is survived by sons, Jeremy and Joshua Brenton and grandson, Kage Brenton. He married his surviving wife, Marie Ann McCormick in 1997 and is survived by son Douglas McCormick and grandsons, Quintin McCormick and Greysen McCormick. He is also survived by his brothers, James “Leroy” Brenton and Kevin Dale Brenton. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert Wayne Brenton and Heber Eugene Brenton.
Graveside services for Joe will take place at 1:30 PM EST on Monday, August 15, at Walnut Hills Cemetery in Petersburg, IN and a visitation from 11 AM to 1 PM prior to the service at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, IN. Military Honors will be performed by the Petersburg VFW #3587. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care
