Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Five Star Company will continue work on a series of small structure replacement projects along S.R. 58 in Jackson and Lawrence Counties.
The first structure, located between C.R. 550 W. and C.R. 650 W. (13.37 miles east of S.R. 446), is expected to reopen by the end of the day on Friday, August 19. At that time, the contractor will move to the second structure, located between Pike Road and C.R. 980 W. (9.9 miles east of S.R. 446) in Jackson County. State Road 58 will be closed for up to 30 days while work is in progress. This is a change from the updated schedule provided last month due to progress with utility relocation.
Once work is complete at the second structure, the contractor will move to the third and final structure on the contract, located between Fairview Mundell Road and S.R. 446 in Lawrence County. State Road 58 will close for up to 30 days at this location while the structure is replaced. The closure is expected to begin in mid-September.
The $1 million contract was awarded to Five Star in February, with a completion date in late October. Traffic will be routed along the official detour, which follows S.R. 446, U.S. 50 and S.R. 135. Access will be maintained for local residents; thru traffic should use an alternate route.
INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, avoid distractions, and consider worker safety when traveling through active construction zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
