Knox County will once again host their annual Suicide Prevention Walk on Saturday, September 17th at Vincennes University’s Outdoor Track. The event’s goal is to raise awareness for mental health, suicide prevention, and the importance of seeking support.

Check in for the Walk begins at 8:30 am, the Opening Ceremony will start at 9:00 am, and the Walk will follow. Individuals can choose the length of their walk: 1, 2, 3, or 5 miles. Additional activities will include a flag memorial garden, bead jewelry making, and many community resource partners providing information on mental health services.

The Walk allows a time for those affected by suicide to come together and share stories that help them and others heal. We also hope that by joining together, we can help combat the stigma of depression and mental illness and make seeking help easier.

Over 57 million people in the United States struggle with mental health issues annually. More than 1,000 Hoosiers lose their lives to suicide each year, and nationally, 12.2 million people have seriously thought about suicide each year.

To register for the walk and/or purchase a shirt in support of this cause, go to https://tinyurl.com/4wcawm55 . This is a family-friendly event to spread hope and awareness. For more information, call or text 812.895.1007 or email mhakcindiana@gmail.com.
