Wayne Paul Holscher

Just five days short of his 41st wedding anniversary, Wayne Paul Holscher, 69 of Vincennes, left this world for his heavenly home.

At Wayne’s side was his wife, Tammie (McCarter) Holscher, who he wed on August 29, 1981, and his two children, Nicholas  Holscher, Jeanmarie (Ryan) Hoke, and family friend Ashley Ruppel.

Wayne’s life was also richly blessed by four beautiful grandchildren: Clint, Ava & Zach Holscher, and Carter Ryan Hoke.

Wayne was born in Vincennes on May 3, 1953, to the late Paul and Rita (Halter) Holscher.  He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and was a 1971 graduate of South Knox High School.

Wayne spent his life working on the family farm. He was the owner and operator of Wayne Holscher Trucking, Inc., where he and his drivers hauled for more than forty years. Over the years he has hauled many things including produce and other goods. Wayne also spent several years hauling for local melon farmers, Lewis Bakery, and also hauled fertilizer for Nutrien Ag, Ceres Solutions, and local farmers. He thoroughly enjoyed the many friends he met and considered family along this journey.

Wayne’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, and especially playing with his grandchildren.  He enjoyed working in the yard, bird watching, grilling, and feeding the squirrels.  He was well known for his storytelling, his kindness, and his great love for his family.

Six siblings are left behind to mourn the loss of their oldest brother: Debbie (Glen) Hagan, Brenda (Doug) Horrall, Pat (Lori) Holscher, Paula (Steve) Hill, Doug (Amy) Holscher, and Gary Holscher.  He is also survived by a sister-in-law Mary (Andy) Worland and brother-in-law Steve Kaiser.  He had a number of nieces and nephews, and also great nieces and nephews who are left with wonderful memories of their “Uncle Wayne.”

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Duane, mother-in-law Dolores McCarter and father-in-law Russell “Bud” McCarter, brother-in-laws Tim McCarter, Doug McCarter, and Russell McCarter III, and a sister-in-law Ansalea Kaiser.

Friends and family are invited to join graveside service at Mariah Creek Cemetery in Oaktown on September 6 at 11:00am with Father Benny Chacko officiating. A bereavement dinner will follow at Mariah Creek Christian Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice or St. Francis Xavier Parish in memory of Wayne Holscher.
