Woman Charged With Attempted Murder of Husband

POSEY COUNTY
It was an argument between a married couple that went south in a violent way.
Police in Posey County were called to a home on State Road 62 West Friday night after a caller said they heard two gunshots inside the home. The police arrived and found 58-year-old Herbert Wade laying in the living room with gunshots to the chest. His wife, 48-year-old Melissa Wade, was also shot. Detectives quickly learned that the Wades were in the middle of a heated argument.
“And at some point, Melissa retrieved a revolver and during that argument, she shot her husband in the chest,” says Sergeant Todd Ringle with Indiana State Police.
Sgt. Ringle says Melissa accidentally shot herself in the leg after she shot Herbert. Both were taken to Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville. Melissa was treated and released right into the custody of police. She’s currently in the Posey County Jail, facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery, and battery with a deadly weapon.
Herbert Wade is still in the hospital. Sgt. Ringle says State Police are hopeful that Herbert pulls through.
This situation should’ve never turned violent, says Sgt. Ringle.
“There’s better ways of communicating problems,” says Sgt. Ringle, “there’s better ways of resolving those issues. It’s always best that if you’re involved in a heated argument, walk away. Even if you have to leave your home, get in the car and leave. A lot of times, time will help resolve the issues.”
Indiana State Police say a juvenile boy was also inside the home during the shooting, but was not hurt.
