Jerry D. Barker, 80, of Washington, Indiana, went to his Heavenly home on Saturday,
September 3, 2022, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper, Indiana.
He was born on November 7, 1941, in Dekalb, Illinois, to the late Ralph and Lela
(Goodlet) Barker.
Jerry was a 1959 graduate of the Central High School of Greene County (now known as
Switz City High School). After high school, he served in the U.S. Army from 1960 –
1965. During three of those five years, Jerry worked at the Pentagon in Washington D.C.
Upon discharge from the military, Jerry married Shirley Harden and she preceded him in
death on June 14, 1999. Together they had one daughter, Lisa.
Jerry spent many years living in Corydon, Indiana, and was very active in their
community. He later moved to Washington, Indiana, and on August 12, 2000, he married
Sandra (Greer) Barker. Jerry worked in financing for many years before retiring after
thirty-five years at Personal Finance. He loved to golf, bowl, fish, mow his yard, scratch
lottery tickets, and watch IU basketball. Jerry loved to spend time with his family,
especially his grandchildren, and his great grandchildren.
Surviving Jerry is his wife, Sandra (Greer) Barker of Washington, Indiana, his daughter,
Lisa Wernert (Gerry) of Mooresville, Indiana, his step children, Deanna Gregory of
Washington, Indiana, Chadd Gregory of Washington, Indiana, his son – in – law, Andrew
Herndon, grandchildren, Bryant Heffernan, Timothy Wernert, Tyler Wernert (Dani),
Cheyanne Stone (Dakota Butler), Lizzy Herndon, Jalen Stone, Kailey Gregory, great
grandchildren, Hailey Heffernan, Charlotte Wernert, Lincoln Wernert, and several nieces
and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Lela, his first wife, Shirley
(Harden) Barker, his step – daughter, Misty Gregory Herndon, and his siblings, Jimmy
Barker, Nancy Marion, Ralph Barker, and Donnie Baker.
Visitation for Jerry will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, from 4:00 – 8:00pm
at Southwind Wesleyan Church 1782 Troy Rd., Washington, Indiana 47501. A funeral
service will be conducted on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at 12:00pm with Pastor Phil
Kessen officiating. Friends and family may visit Thursday morning from 10:00am until
the time of the service. Entombment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens in
Bloomington, Indiana 47404.
