The Hatchets play Pike Central in the semifinals on Wednesday at 6 pm. Tonight’s match ups, Sullivan plays Princeton, Vincennes Lincoln will face Gibson Southern. The two winners play in the other semifinal on Wednesday night.
In the 1 A sectional at South Knox it was South Knox taking the lead 1-0 with 7 minutes left in the first half and held on for the win over Barr Reeve 3-0. Solid campaign by the Vikings who are in their inaugural season.

There’s a new man at the helm for the Cardinals. Washington Catholic High School announced that Billy Nolley has been named the new Head Varsity Basketball Coach. Nolley has served the WC Boys Basketball team as an assistant coach for the last two seasons, a JV Head Coach for a season and has played a role in helping with the Washington Catholic Little Cardinals basketball program. Coach Nolley is a 1996 graduate of Washington Catholic High School and takes over for John Howell who had 2 stints at WC and most recently coached the Cardinals since 2013.

The AP Top 25 college football poll is out after another wild weekend of games. Georgia trailed by 13 points in the second half but used a late touchdown drive to rally past unranked Missouri. Alabama lost Bryce Young in the second quarter but still beat a ranked Arkansas team by 23. Clemson beat a ranked ACC foe for the second straight week. Meanwhile, last week #10 Kentucky’s undefeated season ended at the hands of Ole Miss; Oklahoma and Texas A&M lost road games to then-unranked conference foes; and Kansas, TCU and Syracuse are all still undefeated. It can be profitable to lose your job as a college football coach. Former Wisconsin football coach Paul Chryst will receive a buyout of $11 million, the school said Monday.
Chryst, fired Sunday following a 2-3 start to the season.
Hall of Fame manager Tony La Russa is leaving the dugout for good. La Russa announced his retirement from managing Monday, weeks after he left the Chicago White Sox after undergoing a medical procedure on his pacemaker.La Russa leaves the game as one of the most accomplished managers in MLB history. In 35 years as a manager, La Russa won 2,897 games, claimed six pennants and won three World Series titles.
