Joyce Ellen Fane, 71, of Terre Haute passed away on December 12th, 2022. She was born January 21st, 1951 to Henry and Irene (Halter) Frey in Vincennes. She grew up with her seven siblings in a farm house on Old River Road. On January 23rd, 1971 she married Robert Eugene Fane, son of John Fane and Mary Elizabeth “Betty” (Frey) Speth. Together Joy and Rob raised two sons, Brian and Jason. For over twenty years she was a Navy wife, while managing the house, kids, a dog, and (occasionally) a cat while her husband was at sea and through multiple moves across the country. This included a time as a ship’s ombudsman, where she acted as a liaison between the ship and the crew’s families. She enjoyed baking, especially rolls and pies; she especially enjoyed recalling that her most complemented apple pie was the one where she accidentally added cayenne pepper instead of cinnamon. She also loved to sit around a table with family and friends to talk, play games, and laugh. Joy had a talent for cross-stitch always surprising loved ones with her creations. She recently completed five pictures for family members, a three year long labor of love. She was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law, mother-in-law, step-father-in-law Robert Speth, brother Wayne Frey, sister Emmalene Anthis, sister-in-law Susan “Sue” Bellinger, and brothers-in-law, Frank Anthis, Ron Branham, John Fane, Richard Fane, and Terrence “Terry” Speth.
