Loren “Darrell” Ainscough, 80, passed away while at the Deaconess Hospital in Evansville on January 7, 2023. He was born November 14, 1942, in Daviess County to Austin M. and Bertha (Barley) Ainscough. Darrell married Judith R. Medlin in 1977, and she survives.
Darrell was a 1960 graduate of Epsom High School. He joined the United States Navy in 1960, where he was assigned to the Atlanta Fleet Destroyer Force and served in the Cuban Missile Crisis Blockade. After his Honorable Discharge from the Armed Forces, he worked for the Department of Natural Resources at the Glendale Fish and Game Area. Darrell was also employed at RCA in Bloomington as a first-class trouble shooter. In 1968, he became a deputy with the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department under Sheriff Ralph D. Morgan. He attended the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy at Indiana University in 1969. In 1973, Darrell joined the Indiana State Excise Police as an officer, a position he held until his retirement in 2002. Darrell was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and served on various church committees.
Those who now mourn Darrell’s passing include his wife, Judith Ainscough; daughters, Cynthia (Chris) Holt of Mooresville and Amy (Steve) Wilson of Mitchell; son, Scott Ainscough of Mooresville; and stepson, Daniel Medlin of Louisiana. Darrell was blessed with four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Darrell knew the sorrow that comes with loss with the passing of his parents, Austin and Bertha; brother, Gerald Ainscough; and sisters, Jan Sheridan, Reba Sibray, and Wanda Auberry.
Visitation for Loren “Darrell” Ainscough will be 4:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, January 12, 2023, at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary, 620 East Viola Avenue, Washington. Visitation for Loren “Darrell” Ainscough will also be held 12:00-1:00 pm, Friday, January 13, 2023, just prior to the funeral service, also at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary.
Funeral services for Loren “Darrell” Ainscough will be 1:00 pm, Friday, January 13, 2023, at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary, 620 East Viola Avenue, Washington. Pastor Rex Thomas will officiate. The Washington American Legion and VFW will accord Darrell Ainscough military honors at his interment in the St. John Cemetery.
