In local basketball some records are being broken.
As reported by Hatched Historian Bob Padgett, Brycen Neidigh passed Kevin Decker on the all time list of most 3 – point field goals in a season. Neidigh now has 72 on the year passing the old mark of 67. None bigger thus far than the buzzer beater at Forest Park on Tuesday night.
In Loogootee as Peyton Bledsoe is on the brink of breaking his 51 year old career scoring record Brian Canada will be making his way to Loogootee this week from Florida to be in attendance when the record is broken. According to WRZR’s Greg Bateman Brian says he’s held it long enough, it’s time for the record to be broken, and he’s looking forward to watching Peyton break his record in person.
Peyton sits at 1435 total career points leaving him only 61 shy of tying Brian’s record. The Lions are at Mitchell Friday night, at home to the Hatchets Saturday night and back at home to WC Tuesday night!
Jaylen Mullen needs 16 points and 8 assists to break both all-time records at North Daviess. Prior to the game, ND will give commemorative basketballs to all-time points (1,385) and rebounds (552) leader Adam Trueblood, Class of 2002, as well as single game, single season, and career assists leader (440) Aaron Bechtel, Class of 1996.
Both former players are super excited to be in attendance for the ND vs. North Knox contest on Friday night at the Den in case Jaylen surpasses them.
As reported by WAMW this week, The Hatchet House will host the Boys Basketball Sectional 31 Tournament, as well as Regional and Semi-State. The change was announced by Southridge because it lacks the ability to allow wheelchair access to the floor. The gym was built in 1951 and is ADA compliant, but a sectional member school notified the school it would need access to the floor, and the school worked to accommodate but was unable to do so by the start of the post-season tournament. The sectional will return to Southridge in 2024, and Southridge will still be hosting the 2A regional. Sectional tournament action begins the week of February 28th with the pairings show on Sunday Feb 19 at 5 pm.
