Karen Letice (Southerland) Hoefling quietly passed from this life on February 16, 2023, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville Indiana, surrounded by family members.
Karen was born on May 19, 1956 in Washington, Indiana to Eleanor (Dant) Southerland and Ralph Southerland. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a graduate of Washington Catholic High School, where she was a cheerleader for her WCHS Cardinals.
She attended Vincennes University and Indiana State University before marrying Lee Hoefling on June 6, 1980.
She worked for Tokheim Corp. and the State of Indian before retiring in 2015.
She was the ultimate homebody, happiest when she was with her dogs and curled up with a good mystery novel, or binging on Netflix. She loved warm summer days, when she could hang out with her best friends, her sisters, by a swimming pool soaking up some sun.
She was “Aunt Karen” to 10 amazing and talented nieces and nephews, who mad her proud with their many accomplishments over the years. She also had 15 great nieces and nephews who constantly delighted her.
Her nieces still fondly recall the many slumber parties she would have for them when they were younger, eating snacks, playing computer games, and trying on her jewelry and make up as she meticulously painted their nails.
And giggling. There was lots of giggling.
She leaves behind her husband, Lee, and her beloved siblings Pamela Wilson, Sherri Carter, Susan Paolella, and Stuart Southerland. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Catherine Chambers.
Goodwin-Sievers is honored and entrusted with the care of Mrs. Hoefling. Following her wishes, there will be a family service in her honor. If you wish to honor Karen’s life, do something nice for someone without expecting anything in return.
