Lawrence E. “Gene” French, 89, of Shoals, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at his residence.
Born March 22, 1933 in Shoals, Indiana, he was the son of Lawrence and Dorothy (McNeff) French.
He married Betty June Norman on October 7, 1950 and she survives.
Gene attended Shoals High School and was a member of the New Union Christian Church, Bedford.
He enjoyed mowing his yard, mushroom hunting, and spending time with his family.
Gene worked for Sherfick Music Company and then United States Gypsum for many years, where he retired from in 1993.
Surviving are his wife, Betty June; children, Geneva R. French and Michael E. (Diana) French; grandchildren, Christopher (Rachel) Yoder, Bridgette (Ben) Bush, Meryl (Jason) Turner, Steven (Emily) French, Nakkisha Shaw, Cortney (Jesse) Moffitt, and Sarah French; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Darlene (Terry) Hobson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Frances Holt; and brother-in-law, Gordon Holt.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at the Queen-Lee Chapel of George Funeral Care, with Pastor Randy Stevens and Pastor Michael French officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Ben Bush, Jason Turner, Jesse Moffitt, Steven French, Keegan Brock, and Donovan Turner.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Union Christian Church, Bedford.
