An NCAA basketball record thought to be unbreakable will fall this week. Peat Maravich’s all time career scoring record of 3,667 points, a mark that’s stood since Jan. 31, 1970 will soon belong Antoine Davis, a 6-foot-1 guard from off-the-radar Detroit Mercy The son of Detroit Mercy, and former IU coach Mike Davis is 63 shy of equaling a record that previously had gone unthreatened for more than half a century. Maravich accomplished the feat in 83 career college games but with heavier schedules and an extra covid year Davis will have played in over 140 games to break the record.
In a great story out of NCAA baseball, Northern Kentucky’s Liam McFadden-Ackman had what will almost certainly be the best inning of most anyone’s career. The designated hitter hit two grand slams — not one, but two of them — in the opening inning of their 27-4 win over Western Michigan on Sunday. McFadden-Ackman ended up hitting for the cycle before his day was done, adding a triple, a double and a single by the sixth inning of their game at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex in Highland Heights, Kentucky. He went 5-of-6 at the plate with four runs and 10 RBI on the day.
