Starting next school year, Indiana students will be required to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), according to a new law approved by Governor Eric Holcomb. While not required for high school graduation, the law mandates students to submit the FAFSA by April 15 of their senior year in order to be eligible for state and federal money, including Pell Grants. Supporters argue that filling out the FAFSA will no longer be left to happenstance and could provide much-needed funds for education. Some exceptions apply, including waivers for nonpublic school students and those with parents who decline the form. The law expires in 10 years, but lawmakers can reevaluate it.
