Shayla Turman, a 25-year-old Indianapolis resident, was arrested on Sunday afternoon, May 21. Trooper Cummings initiated a traffic stop on Turman’s 2016 Chevrolet after observing her driving at a speed of 96 mph on I-69 south of Oakland City. During the stop, Trooper Cummings detected the odor of marijuana inside the vehicle. Turman displayed signs of impairment and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Further investigation revealed that she had consumed marijuana earlier in the day. Toxicology results are pending. Turman was subsequently arrested and is currently held at the Gibson County Jail, pending bond. The Indiana Department of Child Services took custody of the 3-year-old child who was in the vehicle at the time of the arrest.
