Dave Smith has been named boys varsity basketball coach for the Loogootee Lions. Smith has been a long-time part of the basketball program. He was an assistant for Jack Butcher in the early 1990s. Smith was the girls varsity coach for 3 seasons and has coached in the junior high program most recently. He inherits a Lions team that was 20-8 last year and lost to Indianapolis Lutheran at Semi-State for Coach Ryan Haywood who departed for Southridge. Smith will be joined on the bench by state championship winning head coach and current announcer for Shake Broadcasting on Razor Radio Sports Coach Mike Wagoner.
Update on Barr Reeve’s Elle Knepp who will be competing in the 100m high hurdles at the IHSAA state track meet. That event is slated for Saturday June, 3rd Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex on the campus of Indiana University. The 100m high hurdle trials begin at 5:15pm. 3 heats with 9 runners in each. 1st, 2nd from each heat plus next 3 best times will race in the finals at approximately 6:15 pm.
