The use and possession of fireworks on forest property, including popular beach areas, is strictly against the law.
Stacy Duke, the recreation program manager for the Forest, emphasized the dangers associated with fireworks, stating, “Setting off fireworks in the Forest is not only illegal, it is also a hazardous activity that can lead to injury and wildfires.”
To ensure everyone’s safety, the Forest encourages visitors to enjoy public fireworks displays organized by local communities instead of engaging in personal fireworks activities on public lands.
Whether you’re camping or enjoying a day trip in the Forest, it’s crucial to remember that in case of any emergency, including a wildfire, you should immediately dial 911 for assistance.
Please be aware that the use or possession of fireworks on federal public lands is a serious offense and can result in severe consequences. Violators may face confiscation of fireworks, fines of up to $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for organizations, as well as potential jail time of up to six months.
As you plan your holiday celebrations, let’s prioritize safety and respect for our natural surroundings. Enjoy the festivities responsibly and have a wonderful Independence Day weekend.
