George S. Sherfick Sr, 95, of Terre Haute, formerly of Shoals, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2023.
Born January 18, 1928, in Lost River Township in Shoals, he was the son of Everett and Anna (Bryan) Sherfick.
He married Jewell Tolbert on August 28, 1948, in Shoals by the Justice of the Peace, and she preceded him in death on August 11, 2016.
George was a graduate of Shoals High School class of 1946, served in the United States Army during World War II, the reserves during the Korean War, and was a member of the Terre Haute VFW. He worked as a Land Surveyor for WT Crawley Land Surveyors for 28 years, an Amateur Radio Operator for WQETE, and built his own homes in Shoals and Terre Haute.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his son, George S. “Sam” Sherfick Jr and his wife Esther; one granddaughter, Dawne Michelle (Miles) Wozniak and her husband Don; sister-in-law, Eldean Sherfick; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Stanley, Howard, and Gene Sherfick.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at the Queen-Lee Chapel of George Funeral Care, in Shoals, with Matt Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by members of the Shoals American Legion.
Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until the service hour on Wednesday at the Queen-Lee Chapel.
